Be confident
Confidence…never underestimate its power. I’ll be the first to admit, that for a long time I struggled with this. I was constantly questioning myself and what I can do, what I’m worth. Especially in a professional setting. Should I hang up my design shoes all together…go into something more “mainstream” – like say accounting? Should I even bother starting a blog, creating an ETSY shop and putting myself out there? Will people like what I have to offer?
But I’ve come to the realization, that it’s more about me, rather than what other people think.
This new little venture has sparked a passion in me for my designs that I truly thought lost in the corporate jungle for a long while. Don’t get me wrong, I love corporate design, the structure it has, and even some of the more mundane tasks (I would be totally showing my nerdy inner self if I admit too, that I love a good spreadsheet ;-), but it was always more of a job, rather than a lifestyle. I was always secretly jealous of my husband – golf coach extraordinaire – who had already found his passion and could sit for hours and hours on end analyzing golf swing after golf swing. Now I get it – and I love it.
I can do this
So when I then take this feeling back to the original question “am I good enough? Should I bother? Will I embarrass myself?” I can finally answer myself: “I CAN DO THIS, and you know what? I’m good at it.” I’ve developed my own style. My designs can brighten up my world and they can do so for others too. This “job” makes me happy and while it does that, I will share it with whoever wants to see it. So I will be (at least try to be) confident, because I want to believe that I deserve this feeling – I’ve had to go through a lot of ups and downs to finally get here. And so do you!
Have you ever felt this pressure? Have you rediscovered what makes you happy? I’d love to hear about it. Leave a comment below, share your passion and live a happy life.
Happy, confident Monday people!
